Marylhurst University
17600 Pacific Highway (Hwy 43), Marylhurst, Oregon 97036
What is World Labyrinth Day™?
World Labyrinth Day™ is a day that brings people from all over the planet together in celebration of the labyrinth as a symbol, a tool, a passion or a practice.
Walk as One at 1
As part of this celebration you are invited to “Walk as One at 1” to effect a rolling wave of peaceful energy as the world turns. Walk in your local time zone at 1:00 p.m.
A labyrinth is a single path or unicursal tool for personal, psychological and spiritual transformation. Labyrinths are thought to enhance right brain activity. The American Cancer Society states that labyrinths "may be helpful as a complementary method to decrease stress and create a state of relaxation."
Deadline for labyrinth builder application:
Friday, April 23, 2010
RULES & REGULATIONS:
All materials used to create your labyrinth must NOT damage the lawn or pavement areas of Marylhurst University (small holes in the ground to anchor the labyrinth are acceptable. However, no digging please). This is a outdoor temporary labyrinth building event, and therefore, nothing permanent is to remain after the festival. The assigned labyrinth building area for you must remain in the same condition as you found it once the festival is over.
The festival begins at 9:00 a.m. for attendees. You may choose to arrive earlier in the morning if you wish, in order to begin set-up, and / or continue set-up once the festival time has begun if you desire people to observe you as you construct your labyrinth. The event concludes at 3:00 p.m., and you may remove your labyrinth at that time. There is an option to leave the labyrinths up for 3-4 days in order to attract more people to walk. At the end of the extended time frame, all labyrinth materials would need to be removed—as stated above.
